Women's Empowerment Cell and Youth Red Cross Unit, in collaboration with IQAC, organized a program to commemorate International Women's Day (2024) on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. The program themes are “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” and “Inspire Inclusion”.
Students Kum.
Mamatha A.L. and Swathi A.S. served as the program's anchors, and student
Chandana A. C. and Team sang the invocation song at the beginning. The
programme began at 11.30 a.m. The main guests watered the plant while Dr.
Nirupama M., Convener, Women Empowerment Cell, SAFG College, welcomed and
introduced each dignitary.
The program's
keynote speaker, Mrs. Kavitha J. N., a librarian, discussed the background and
history of Women's Day while highlighting the positive accomplishments and
contributions made by women to their communities, workplaces, friendships,
families, marriages, and child care.
Subsequently, Mr. Siddaraju from the Political Science faculty discusses
women who have made achievements in a variety of fields, including social work,
sports, politics, science, and technology.
Later, Mrs.
Indra, the chief guest of the Department of Women and Child Development in
Channarayapatna, honoured Mrs. Navya, the HK Nursing Officer of the Govt.
Hospital in Channarayapatna, and Mrs. Hemalatha, the Asha worker of the
Community Health Centre in Nuggehalli, as suggested by Dr. Mahesh. Speaking about their experiences and the necessity of ending girl child
abortion in order to rescue girls, Mrs. Navya, the HK Nursing Officer of the
Channarayapatna Government Hospital, discussed.
The Chief Guest,
Mrs. Indra, Department of Women and Child Development, Channarayapatnam, gave a
special address and explained how everyone, everywhere can contribute to the
progress of gender equality. Any form of IWD activity is legal, including
various campaigns, events, rallies, lobbying efforts, demonstrations,
festivals, parties, fun runs and celebrations. This is the reason why IWD is so
inclusive. So celebrate IWD and contribute to the creation of a gender-neutral
world.
Dr.
Manjunath M. K., Principal, SAFG College, gave a presidential speech in which
he stated that there is no area these days where women are not seen. Women are
employed everywhere—in workplaces, educational institutions, businesses, and
other settings. Women used to be prohibited from pursuing higher education or
finding work. Therefore, on March 8th, people all around the world celebrate
Women's Day to honour and recognise women. The phrase "Yatra Naryastu
Pujiyante Ramante Tatra Devatah" was then coated by him.
He also discusses Sati, an ancient Indian custom in which a widow sits
atop her husband's funeral pyre in self-sacrifice. In 1828, Lord William
Bentinck was appointed Governor-General of India. He supported Raja Rammohan
Roy in his efforts to ban several pervasive societal ills, including female
infanticide, child marriage, polygamy, and Sati.
A vote of
gratitude is given to each and every gathering by Mrs. Niroosha M R. HOD of
Kannada. More than 120 students took part in and used this programme. The
program was concluded by distributing snacks to the students.
