Independence Day Celebration

The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit on 15th August 2026 at BGS Vedike. The programme commenced at 8:00 a.m. with the flag hoisting ceremony, followed by patriotic songs and inspiring speeches by the distinguished guests.

The programme was graced by the presence of the Chief Guests Mr. Manjunatha H.T., shared his experiences of serving in the Indian Army and encouraged students to consider a career in the armed forces. He explained the various opportunities available in the Army and motivated students to develop discipline, physical fitness, dedication, and a spirit of service to the nation. Due to a physical injury sustained during his service, he had to leave the Army. His inspiring life experience and words of encouragement motivated the students to explore opportunities in the armed forces and serve the nation with commitment.

The SAFGC Newsletter, Volume 2, Issue No. 2, covering the period from January 2026 to June 2026, was formally released during the celebration. Mr. Manjunatha H. T., Retired Army Personnel, the Chief Guest, and Dr. M. K. Manjunatha, Principal, SAFGC, jointly released the newsletter in the presence of faculty members and students. The newsletter showcases the major academic, co-curricular, extension, cultural, and institutional activities conducted by the college during the period.

Dr. Manjunath M. K., Principal, Sri Adichunchanagiri First Grade College (SAFG College), delivered the presidential address. In his address, he highlighted the significance of Independence Day and encouraged students to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, discipline, and responsibility. He motivated the students to focus on education and become responsible citizens who contribute positively to the development of the nation.

As part of the celebration, students presented several patriotic songs and cultural performances. Two teams of our students participated enthusiastically and presented a patriotic dance performance with excellent coordination and confidence. Their performance beautifully expressed their love and respect for the nation and was well appreciated by the audience.

The celebration provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their talents and develop a strong sense of patriotism and national pride. The programme concluded successfully, leaving everyone with a renewed feeling of pride and responsibility towards the nation.

Har Ghar Tiranga Jatha

 The NSS Wing of the college organised a Har Ghar Tiranga Jatha on 14 August 2026 at 10:30 a.m. Students and faculty members actively participated in the Jatha, carrying the National Flag and promoting the spirit of patriotism and national unity.

The Jatha began at the college premises and proceeded towards the Anjaneya Temple, moved in front of the Police Station and passed through the KSRTC Bus Stand before reaching the college. During the Jatha, students raised patriotic slogans and enthusiastically chanted “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and other national slogans. The National Flag was respectfully carried and handed over from one participant to another, symbolising unity, pride and collective responsibility towards the nation.

The programme created a strong sense of patriotism among the students and faculty members and conveyed the message of “Har Ghar Tiranga” and respect for the National Flag.

B.Com. Induction Programme – 2026

The Department of Commerce organised a B.Com. Induction Programme on 13 August 2026 to welcome and orient the newly admitted students to the academic environment of the institution.

The programme was presided over by Dr. M. K. Manjunatha, Principal, who addressed the students and highlighted the importance of higher education, discipline, academic excellence and active participation in co-curricular activities.

Mr. Sridhar A. N., Head of the Department of Commerce, delivered the content and provided students with an overview of the B.Com. programme, curriculum, academic expectations and opportunities available in the department.

The programme was hosted by Mr. Nandeesh S.C., who coordinated the proceedings effectively. Mr. Narasimhamurthy P. proposed the vote of thanks and formally concluded the programme.

The induction programme provided a meaningful beginning for the new B.Com. students and helped them understand the academic and institutional environment of the college.

World Elephant Day Celebration

The Department of Zoology organised World Elephant Day on 12 August 2026 in the college laboratory. As part of the programme, students prepared and presented informative posters highlighting the importance of elephants, their conservation, habitat, and the need to protect wildlife.

The programme was inaugurated by the Principal, who formally inaugurated the poster presentation and encouraged students to create awareness about elephant conservation.

Shikar, a I Year B.Sc. student, delivered the keynote address and spoke about the significance of World Elephant Day, elephant conservation, and the role of students in protecting wildlife and the environment.

The Principal delivered the presidential address, highlighting the importance of biodiversity conservation and encouraging students to develop greater awareness and responsibility towards wildlife protection.

The participating students explained their posters to the Principal, faculty members, and visitors. Students from other departments also visited the laboratory, observed the poster presentations, and gained awareness about elephant conservation and environmental protection.

The programme provided students with an opportunity to enhance their knowledge, communication skills, and awareness of wildlife conservation.













National Librarians’ Day – 2026

The Library and Information Centre, Sri Adichunchanagiri First Grade College (SAFGC), Channarayapatna, organized National Librarians’ Day 2026 on 12 August 2026 in the college assembly at 9:50 a.m.

On the occasion, Mrs. Kavitha, Librarian, addressed the students and faculty members and highlighted the significance of National Librarians’ Day, celebrated every year on 12 August to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. She briefly explained the life and achievements of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892–1972), who is widely regarded as the Father of Library Science in India. She highlighted his major contributions, including the development of the Five Laws of Library Science, the Colon Classification Scheme, and the Classified Catalogue Code, which made significant contributions to the systematic organization and development of libraries in India. She also emphasised his vision of making books and information accessible to all and his lasting influence on modern library and information services.

As a mark of respect, floral tribute was offered to the portrait of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. The programme created awareness about the importance of libraries, the role of librarians in facilitating access to knowledge, and the continuing relevance of Dr. Ranganathan’s contributions to the field of library and information science.
