Science in Colours – Scientific Rangoli Competition

The Departments of Zoology and Physics jointly organised a Scientific Rangoli Competition titled “Science in Colours” on 04.03.2026 in connection with National Science Day celebrations.

The objective of the programme was to encourage students to creatively represent scientific concepts through traditional rangoli art and to promote scientific thinking blended with cultural expression. Participants were required to depict themes related to Zoology and Physics and provide a brief explanation of their concepts.

A total of 23 teams comprising 70 students actively participated in the competition. The students presented innovative and informative rangoli designs illustrating topics such as human anatomy, environmental conservation, laws of motion, optics, biodiversity, and other scientific principles.

The competition was evaluated by a panel of four jury members, who assessed the entries based on creativity, scientific accuracy, clarity of explanation, presentation, and overall impact.

Separate prizes were awarded in both streams:

  • Three prizes in Zoology

  • Three prizes in Physics

Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Enhancing Classroom Communication Skills for Teachers

The Library and Information Centre organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Enhancing Classroom Communication Skills for Teachers” on 28.02.2026 at 12.00 PM in the Seminar Hall. The programme was conducted with the objective of strengthening the communication skills of faculty members and improving the overall effectiveness of classroom teaching.

The session was delivered by Mr. Nagesh J. E., who served as the Resource Person. In his presentation, he elaborated on the process of communication in teaching, explaining how a message is created, encoded by the teacher, transmitted, received, and decoded by the students. He highlighted that effective teaching depends on clarity of thought, proper expression, and understanding the learners’ responses.

Mr. Nagesh J. E. provided examples from the present classroom situation to demonstrate how communication gaps may arise and how they can be minimized. He emphasized that a teacher must be a good speaker, attentive listener, and active reader. He clearly stated that teaching is always a two-way interaction and not a one-way process. Teachers should encourage students to ask questions, share ideas, and participate actively in discussions.

He also motivated the faculty members to remain optimistic in their professional approach and avoid pessimistic attitudes while facing academic challenges. According to him, positive communication builds confidence, mutual respect, and better learning outcomes in the classroom.

The programme concluded with the Presidential Address by the Principal. In his speech, he appreciated the valuable insights shared by the Resource Person and stressed that faculty members should continuously develop their professional skills, update their knowledge, and adopt innovative teaching strategies. He encouraged the staff to enhance their communication abilities to ensure effective student engagement and academic excellence.

The FDP was highly informative and beneficial, providing practical guidance on improving classroom communication and promoting interactive teaching–learning practices.

Hands-on Plant Physiology Experiments in the Botanical Garden

The Department of Botany organized a practical session titled “Hands-on Plant Physiology Experiments in the Botanical Garden” on 27.02.2026 from 1.30 PM to 3.00 PM for II CBZ students.

The programme aimed to provide experiential learning in plant physiology through direct observation and experimentation in the natural environment. During the session, students were introduced to various physiological processes of plants, including transpiration, photosynthesis, and plant responses to environmental factors.

The Principal addressed the students and shared valuable knowledge about different plant species available in the botanical garden, emphasizing their ecological and academic importance.

Mrs. Sowmya from the Department of Botany explained the scientific terminology related to plant physiology and guided the students in understanding the practical aspects of physiological experiments. The session was interactive and helped students connect theoretical concepts with real-life observations.

Overall, the programme was informative and beneficial for enhancing practical knowledge in plant physiology.

As part of the programme, eight students from our college presented a meaningful and thought-provoking skit highlighting the issue of girl child abuse and the need for awareness and courage to report unsafe situations. The performance effectively conveyed the message of distinguishing between safe and unsafe touch.

The Headmaster of the school appreciated the efforts of our students and commended their impactful presentation. Dr. Nirupama M., Convenor of the Women Empowerment Cell, and Mrs. Kavitha J.N. Convenor of the Women Sexual Harassment Prevention Cell. Mr. Bhaskara J. extended his support in organizing and coordinating the skit performance. Mrs. Ramya, a teacher at the school, also supported and assisted in conducting the programme smoothly.
