AIDS Awareness through Puppet Game

 On August 29, 2024, the Youth Red Cross and Red Ribbon Unit, SAFG College in collabration with Sri Rajaram Togalugombe Kalaa Sanga organized a unique AIDS awareness program using a puppet game as the central medium in Kuvempu Vedike at 2 pm. This event aimed to educate the community about HIV/AIDS, addressing myths, promoting prevention, and encouraging empathy towards those affected by the disease. In this programme, Sri. Shivappa, Assistant Professor in Kannada welcomed and narrated the programme. Sri Kenchegowda, ICTC consultant, Govt. Hospital, Chnnarayapatna and Dr. M. K. Manjunatha, Principal, SAFG College, Dr Nirupama M, Convenor, Youth Red Cross Unit were present on the stage.

The primary objectives of the puppet play are: to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, its spread, prevention and treatment, to dispel common myths and misconceptions about the disease, to support and dispel discriminatory attitudes towards persons living with HIV/AIDS. They create awareness about the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene and its impact on overall health and the role of hygiene in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. In addition to this, she showed the importance of good health, education for girls etc. in her puppet show. Puppet play was a successful tool in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. It provided a creative and engaging way to communicate essential information, helping to break down barriers of misunderstanding and stigma associated with the disease. More than 900 students benefited from this.
