Field study report on observation of Arthropods in and around the college campus

On October 09, 2024, Department of Zoology organized a field visit for I B.Sc., Students to observe, identifying the arthropods presents in and around our college campus. By 1.30 along with Dr. Nirupama M, HoD of Zoology and Mrs. Radhamma K M all I year CBZ students were went to visit field there they collected and observed different kinds of  ants, butterflies, dragonfly, termites, grasshoppers, spiders and beetles. Field studies, like this one on arthropods around the college campus, hold immense scientific and ecological importance. Field studies allow us to catalog and understand the diversity of arthropod species in a specific area. Understanding these roles helps in assessing how they contribute to the overall balance of the ecosystem. Field study offers vital insights into the ecological roles of arthropods, their contributions to ecosystem services, and their responses to environmental changes. Such information is crucial for biodiversity conservation, ecosystem management, and advancing scientific understanding.

The college campus supports a diverse community of arthropods, each playing a critical role in the ecosystem. Ants and beetles help in nutrient cycling and pest control, while butterflies and bees aid in pollination. Spiders and dragonflies serve as natural predators, maintaining the balance of insect populations. The observation highlights the importance of arthropod diversity for maintaining healthy ecosystems on campus.in conclusion our students identify and observe insects and their habitat in natural conditions and they learnt to classify them easily. Finally we went back to laboratory by 4.30 and segregate the collected insects and preserve it properly.
