National Read A Book Day

The Library and Information Centre in collaboration with IQAC organized National Read A Book Day – Book Talk: Express Your Favorite Read on 6th September 2025 at 12.00 PM in the Seminar Hall.

The programme began with a prayer by Mrs. Ganavi, III B.Sc. student. Mrs. Kavitha J.N., Librarian, delivered the welcome speech, highlighting the importance of reading and explaining why books are essential for knowledge, creativity, and personal growth.

Several faculty members and students actively participated in sharing their thoughts and book reflections:

  • Mrs. Kalavathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Kannada, spoke on the values and life lessons expressed in Sri Ramayana Dharshanam.

  • Mr. Lokesh, GS Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, shared insights from the book Kanoonu Hegadathi.

  • Ms. Bhoomika, I Year HSG student, narrated the story of the birth of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata.

  • Ms. Chandanashri, III B.Sc. student, reviewed Chetan Bhagat’s The Three Mistakes of My Life.

  • Mr. Manjunath, III B.Sc. student, presented several small inspiring stories.

  • Mr. Mohan, III B.A. student, spoke about the story Karana Heli Hogu.

  • Mr. Harsha, II Year student, also participated enthusiastically by expressing his views.

The resource person, Mr. R.K. Shivappa, Assistant Professor, Department of Kannada, motivated students to develop the habit of daily reading. He explained how Sri Ramayana Darshanam by Kuvempu earned the Jnanpith Award and stressed that every student should maintain a personal library at home.

Dr. M.K. Manjunatha, Principal, in his address, emphasized that every student should make it a habit to read at least one page a day, as reading strengthens the mind and builds intellectual discipline.

The programme concluded with the Presidential Remarks by Dr. M.K. Manjunatha, Principal, followed by the Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Nirupama M., HoD of Zoology.

The event was a grand success, inspiring students and staff to cultivate the lifelong habit of reading.

National Librarian’s Day Celebration-2025

On the occasion of National Librarians’ Day, celebrated on 12th August 2025, the Library and Information Centre organized a Debate Competition for students on the topic “Online or Offline? Making Smart Choices for Academic Success.” The event commenced at 12:00 PM in the Library and Information Centre. 

The event was judged by Mr. Raju A.G., Lecturer in Electronics, Adichunchanagiri ITI College, Channarayapatna, who praised the participants for their clarity of thought, confidence, and depth of research.

The programme was presided over by Dr. M.K. Manjunath, Principal, and organised by Mrs. Kavitha J.N., Librarian. Dr. Nirupama M., Head of the Department of Zoology, delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for the event. The session was anchored by Mr. Bhaskara J., Physical Education Director. Faculty members were also present to encourage and motivate the participants. 

The competition aimed to encourage students to critically analyze and present their perspectives on the role of online and offline sources in academic learning. A total of 21 students registered, and 19 students actively presented their debate—9 in favour of online sources and 11 supporting offline sources (printed material).

Best Debater – Supporting Offline Sources (Printed Material): Chandanashree, III PM

Best Debater – Supporting Online Sources: Jyothika

 In addition, three participants received complementary awards to encourage them to participate in future competitions, recognising their enthusiasm and potential.

 All prizes and certificates were presented on the spot by the Judge, Principal and the Librarian, adding to the excitement and recognition for the winners.

First-Year Library Induction

The Library and Information Centre of Sri Adichunchanagiri First Grade College organized a First-Year Library Induction Programme to welcome and guide the new batch of students in effectively using the library resources.

The programme was conducted on 21st July 2025 for B.A. and B.Sc. students, and on 26th July 2025 for B.Com. students, at the college library. All first-year students from these streams actively participated in the induction session.




The main objective of the programme was to introduce students to the library's facilities, services, rules, and digital resources. The session included a walkthrough of the library layout, explanation of the membership process, and a demonstration of how to access the library catalogue and e-resources. Students were also briefed on the importance of reading and the role of the library in academic success. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A round, where students clarified their doubts. The induction programme was well-received, and it laid a strong foundation for the students to utilize the library effectively throughout their academic journey.
