Educational Visit to ISRO on Wheels and Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wheels Science Exhibition

 The 16 final-year students, accompanied by faculty members and led by Dr. B. N. Chandrashekar, Head of the Department of Chemistry, visited the ISRO on Wheels and Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wheels Science Exhibition at HKS International School on 08 September 2026 at 10:30 a.m.

During the visit, students gained knowledge about ISRO’s achievements, Chandrayaan missions, rockets, satellites, space technology, and their applications in communication, weather forecasting, navigation, agriculture, and disaster management.

The students also visited the IAF on Wheels exhibition, where they learned about aviation technology, aircraft operations, national security, and the role of the Indian Air Force. The cockpit demonstration provided practical insights into aircraft controls, navigation, and communication systems. Mr. C. S. Singh, an IAF staff member, also briefed the students about non-technical career opportunities in the Indian Air Force.

The visit enhanced students’ understanding of space science, aviation, defence technology, interdisciplinary applications of Chemistry, higher education, and Central Government competitive examinations. Overall, the exhibition was an informative and inspiring educational experience for the students.

Field Visit to APMC Market, Channarayapatna

The Department of Economics organized a Field Visit to APMC Market, Channarayapatna, on 14.03.2026 to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of agricultural markets and related facilities.

A total of 26 students participated in the visit. The visit was organised by Mr. Lokesh and Mr. Siddaraju, who took the students to the APMC market as part of the educational activity.

During the visit, the APMC Market Secretary, Mr. Somashekar, explained the functioning of the market yard, including the arrival of agricultural commodities, weighing, grading, and auction procedures. He also spoke about the role of traders, commission agents, and the importance of APMC markets in ensuring fair prices for farmers.

The students also visited Sri Lakshmi Ranganatha Cold Storage Limited, where they learned about the storage facilities for agricultural products and the importance of cold storage in preserving perishable commodities. The staff explained the storage process, temperature maintenance, and how such facilities help farmers and traders in maintaining the quality of their produce.

The visit provided students with practical knowledge about agricultural marketing and storage systems. It was highly informative and helped them understand real-life applications of the concepts studied in economics.

Field Visit to Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) 220/66 KV Receiving Station, Yachenahalli, Channarayapatna

 The Department of Physics organized a field visit to the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) 220/66 KV Receiving Station, Yachenahalli, Channarayapatna on 12.03.2026. The main objective of the visit was to provide students with practical knowledge about electrical power transmission, receiving, and distribution systems. A total of 30 students from First Year and Second Year PCM participated in the field visit.

The students were accompanied by Ms. Arpitha H.J., Head of the Department of Physics, Ms. Sahana H.K., Lecturer in Physics, and Mrs. Kavitha J.N., Librarian. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for the students to observe the functioning of a power receiving station and to understand the technical aspects involved in electricity transmission.

Mr. Nagesh, the assistant engineer, gave a detailed explanation of how the receiving station works during the visit. He informed the students that the station receives electrical power of 220 KV from the 440 KV power grid located at Shantigrama, Hassan. He clearly explained the step-by-step procedure involved in receiving the power from the main grid and how it is regulated and managed at the station.

Mr. Nagesh also explained the important equipment used in the receiving station, such as power transformers, circuit breakers, control panels, and transmission lines. He described how the high-voltage electricity received from the grid is converted to a lower voltage level through transformers so that it can be safely transmitted to various substations and distributed to different regions.

We also showed the students the control room, where we monitor and regulate the electricity supply. The engineer explained the safety measures followed in the station and highlighted the importance of maintaining a stable and continuous power supply.

Overall, the field visit was very informative and beneficial for the students. It helped them understand the practical aspects of electricity transmission and distribution and connect their classroom learning with real-world applications. 

Field Study on Industrial Economics: Visit to Chamundeshwari Sugar Industry

The Department of Economics organized a field study visit to Chamundeshwari Sugar Industry, Srinivaspura, Channarayapatna, on 18th November 2025 with 24 students and 3 faculty members. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of agro-based industries and to understand their economic relevance in the regional market.

During the visit, Mr. Ramesh, an employee of the factory, explained that the industry processes about 3 to 4 lakh tonnes of sugarcane per year and supplies sugar mainly to Kerala and Bengaluru. He informed that the factory uses Hemavathi River water for its operations and employs around 600 to 650 workers working in three shifts. He also highlighted that the industry recycles sugarcane by-products, ensuring efficient resource utilization and reducing wastage.

Students observed various stages of sugar production, including crushing, juice extraction, boiling, crystallization, and packaging. The visit enabled them to understand labour distribution, cost structure, market linkages, and industrial management practices. Overall, the field study helped students learn the economic importance of the sugar industry and its contribution to local and regional economic development.

Students tasted the sugar and learned the complete process of converting sugarcane into sugar.
