The Department of Botany and IQAC together organised a special lecture programme for B.Sc., students. Programme was started with an invocation song by Sinchana K. M and team I B.Sc and inaugurated by watering a plant. Smt. Sowmya C .V, Asst. Professor of Botany, welcomed the guest, and Preksha C. S gave an introductory talk. Then, a lecture on “Epigenetic Regulation of Plant Development and Stress Responses” was given by chief guest Dr. P.V. Shivaprasad, Associate Professor, National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore.
The lecture was based on complete information about history and definitions, and a number of epigenetic regulatory layers are superimposed on the genome. In plants, small RNA regulators play a major role in the establishment and maintenance of epigenetic marks. We are interested in understanding the mechanism of small RNA biogenesis and their functions. Around 70 students and teaching staff participated in this occasion and completed the session with a vote of thanks from Dr. Chandrasheker B N. Department of Chemistry, and the programme was anchored by Ms Lavanya G M, I B.Sc.
