The Department of Chemistry organized a Debate Competition on the topic “Fossil Fuels vs. Batteries: Which Chemistry Offers the Best Solution to Environmental Pollution?” on 13th September 2025. The event aimed to encourage students to critically analyze the advantages and drawbacks of both energy sources and their impact on the environment.
A total of 7 groups participated in the competition, with 4 students in each group. The participants put forth strong arguments, highlighting the role of fossil fuels in economic growth and energy accessibility, as well as the potential of battery technologies in ensuring sustainable and clean energy alternatives.
The competition was convened by Dr. B.N. Chandrashekar, who motivated the students to engage in scientific discussions on pressing environmental issues.
The panel of judges comprised Ms. Arpitha H.J., Ms. Sowmya C.V., and Ms. Kavya H.I., who evaluated the participants on the basis of content, presentation skills, rebuttal strength, and overall delivery.
The event was a great success, promoting critical thinking and awareness among students about sustainable energy solutions and their role in addressing environmental pollution.
