The Department of Sociology organized a special lecture on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 9, 2026, at 11:30 AM in Lecture Hall 201 at Sri Adichunchanagiri First Grade College, Channarayapatna. The program aimed to create awareness about women’s empowerment and the status of women in contemporary society.
The event began with an
invocation song rendered by Prajwal B.R., a First-year B.A. student. This was
followed by the welcome address delivered by Dr. Praveen Kumar S., Head
of the Department of Sociology, who welcomed the dignitaries,
faculty members, and students. As a symbolic gesture to mark the occasion, the
dignitaries inaugurated the program by watering plants, symbolizing growth,
sustainability, and empowerment.
The program was graced by Dr. Bharathi Nagesh,
Secretary of Nagesh Shikshana Trust, as the Resource Person.
The resource
person was formally introduced to the gathering by Ms. Kavitha J.N., Librarian,
who highlighted her contributions and achievements.
In her address, Dr. Bharathi
Nagesh spoke about the importance of women’s empowerment and the status of
women in society. She emphasized the need for students to
develop both IQ
(Intelligence
Quotient) and EQ (Emotional Quotient) and highlighted the
importance of maintaining balanced mental, physical, and social well-being.
During her lecture, she presented statistical data on various social issues affecting
women, including dowry harassment, rape cases, girl child harassment,
and child marriage. She stressed that awareness, education, and
legal literacy are essential to address these issues and
improve the position of women in society. She also spoke about the misuse of mobile phones
among students, explaining that excessive exposure to
inappropriate and harmful content on the internet can negatively affect
students’ lives and values. She advised students to use technology responsibly
for learning,
knowledge, and personal development.
The presidential address
was delivered by Dr. M.K. Manjunatha, Principal of SAFG College, who emphasized
the importance of gender equality, respect for women, and social responsibility.
Dr. Nirupama
M., Head of the Department of Zoology, also present on the dais,
adding dignity to the occasion.
The program was anchored by Chandana M.D.,
a
Second-year B.A. student, who conducted the event smoothly. The
program concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Shekhimran, Assistant Professor,
who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, principal, faculty members, and
students for their presence and support. The session was informative and
enlightening, highlighting the importance of awareness,
education, and social responsibility in empowering women and addressing
gender-related issues in society.
