National Librarians’ Day – 2026

The Library and Information Centre, Sri Adichunchanagiri First Grade College (SAFGC), Channarayapatna, organized National Librarians’ Day 2026 on 12 August 2026 in the college assembly at 9:50 a.m.

On the occasion, Mrs. Kavitha, Librarian, addressed the students and faculty members and highlighted the significance of National Librarians’ Day, celebrated every year on 12 August to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. She briefly explained the life and achievements of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892–1972), who is widely regarded as the Father of Library Science in India. She highlighted his major contributions, including the development of the Five Laws of Library Science, the Colon Classification Scheme, and the Classified Catalogue Code, which made significant contributions to the systematic organization and development of libraries in India. She also emphasised his vision of making books and information accessible to all and his lasting influence on modern library and information services.

As a mark of respect, floral tribute was offered to the portrait of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. The programme created awareness about the importance of libraries, the role of librarians in facilitating access to knowledge, and the continuing relevance of Dr. Ranganathan’s contributions to the field of library and information science.
