National Sports Day Celebration-2026

 The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized National Sports Day on 29 August 2026 at the College Ground with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of sports, physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle.

The programme began with a special assembly to commemorate the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary Indian hockey player and one of the greatest hockey players in the history of the sport. On the occasion, Mr. Bhaskara J., Physical Education Director, delivered the keynote address and highlighted the significance of National Sports Day and the contribution of Major Dhyan Chand to Indian sports. He encouraged students to actively participate in sports and physical activities as an essential part of their overall development.

Mr. Siddaraju, Lecturer in Political Science and Kabaddi Player, spoke about Major Dhyan Chand and briefly introduced his remarkable contribution to Indian hockey. He explained that National Sports Day is observed every year on 29 August, marking the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, and highlighted his exceptional achievements and dedication to the field of sports.

The Principal, Dr. M. K. Manjunath, delivered the presidential address. He emphasized the importance of sports in developing physical fitness, mental strength, discipline, leadership qualities, team spirit, and confidence among students. He encouraged students to make sports and physical activities an integral part of their college life.

Following the assembly programme, a Tug-of-War competition was conducted at 12:00 noon for both male and female students. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from the students and created an atmosphere of teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy competition. The event provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their physical strength, coordination, team spirit, and competitive attitude.

The National Sports Day celebration concluded successfully with active participation and enthusiasm from the students and staff, reinforcing the importance of sports and physical fitness in student life.
