Special Lecture on Women Empowerment

 On October 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM, the Department of Sociology, in collaboration with the Women Empowerment Cell and the Sexual Harassment Prevention Cell, hosted a special lecture on women's empowerment in Lecture Hall 201. Dr. B.N. Shivaram, M.A. Ph.D., The author, writer, and retired lecturer Channarayapatna, was the resource person. He has authored numerous books, but his most well-known works are "Kantharajapura Darshana," "Swathanthra Devige," "Ranga Vibhava," "rangabhumi," "chaluva Channudi," "Hasana Jilleya Swathantra Horatagarara Kurithu," and he described how women were treated in ancient, mediaeval, and modern India. He also explained how women's status was extremely low during British and kingly rule, and they were not capable of doing things on their own.  Later, he explained that after India gained its independence, women's status was improved and given more importance in order to uplift their status and provide them with equal rights in all areas of society, including education, politics, economics, and social status. The Indian government also gave women many constitutional privileges to empower them, including the Hindu Marriage Act, the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, the Dowry Prohibition Act, the Reproduction Act, the Property Rights Act, the Widow Remarriage Act, and others. Additionally, he described incidents of violence against women that occur both inside and outside of families, such as when a girl child is kidnapped, raped, abused, married off as a child, harassed for dowries, etc., and when a male child is given more importance in the family and a girl child is disregarded.

A second-year B.SC. Student Ganavi invoked Song to begin the program. The Principal, the Resource Person, and the other faculty members watered the plants as the program's first activity following the official welcome address delivered by Dr. Praveen Kumar S., HOD, Department of Sociology. Dr. B.N. Chandrashekhar, the IQAC Coordinator, gave the presidential address on this particular occasion. Dr. Nirupama M., the Women Empowerment cell, gave the formal vote of thanks at the end of the event, and the program's anchor was Mrs. Kavitha J.N., the Convener Sexual Harassment Prevention cell.

Campus visit for first year B.A, HSG students

A campus visit was arranged by Dr. Praveen Kumar S., HoD Sociology, for first-year HSG students to familiarize them with the facilities, atmosphere, and resources of the college on August 13, 2024, at 10 A.M. The purpose of this visit is to help students prepare for their future academic pursuits.

Brought every student to the computer lab first, where they were all given instruction on computer usages. After seeing the administrative office, the students entered the library. A tour of the library's resources, such as study areas, computers, periodicals, and special collections, is provided by librarian Mrs. Kavitha J N. The director of physical education, Mr. Bhaskar J, then presented an overview of the sports facilities, which comprised sports fields, kabbaddi courts, and volleyball courts. Mr. Narashimha Murthy P also talked about the importance of the Student Welfare Committee and the NSS Unit. Finally, Dr. Praveen Kumar S., the Bharat Scouts and Guides Unit convener gave the students a briefing on the mission, goals, and social services of the unit.

Pura Sabha Visit

 On 4-12-2023 Department of Sociology organized a field visit to Pura Sabha.  Dr. Praveen Kumar S. accompanied second year B.A sociology students to Pura Sabha Channarayapatna based on NEP UG University of Mysore syllabus second year B.A students have a syllabus on urban plan, urban policy, urban development program, urbanization and environmental concerns with refer to that students visited to Pura Sabha Channarayapatna the chief Officer Mr. Hemantha K.S guide the students on Channarayapatna urban plans, area of Channarayapatna and source of income in Channarayapatna tax collection usages of money and service related road, electricity, water supply and Garbage disposal. During their visit to Pura Sabha, our students learned more about the urbanization and policy of Channarayapatna.

Faculty Development Programme on Mentors Role in Student Development

Department of Sociology in collaboration with IQAC organized a Faculty Development Program on Role of Mentors in Student Development on 18th May 2023 at 3.30 PM in Lecture Hall 307. The Resource Person was Sri. Nagesh, J.E., Assistant Professor, Sri Adichunchanagiri College of Education, Channarayapaytna-573116. He explained how mentors should treat students in a liberal arts and science course, how we should treat students, the relationship of trust between mentor and mentee. He contemplated the quality of a mentor and described two aspects that a mentor should follow, a. A mentor must first be a good listener and b. They should contact the students regularly. He elaborated on the area where mentors can help students, different types of mentoring, mentoring cycle, what mentors should do and what mentors should not do. Mentor should be an inspiration and role models for students and if students are not doing well they should be referred for counselling, he suggested. A good mentor should win the heart of the student and not for the mind.

Tarun Gowda, II BA student, opened the programme with the invocation of Song. After the formal welcome speech given by Dr. Praveen Kumar S., Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, offered floral tributes to the portrait of Padmabhushan Dr. Sri Sri Sri Balagangadharanatha Mahaswamiji and wateried the plants as the program's inaugural event by the Resource Person and the Principle, as well as offered by the other faculty members.On this particular occasion, 23 faculty members registered.

Dr. B.N. Chandrashekhar, the IQAC Coordinator, gave the official Vote of Thanks at the conclusion of the event, and  Mr. Lokesh, G.S., Assistant Professor acted as the Anchor of the Programme.
