On the occasion of National Librarians’ Day, celebrated on 12th August 2025, the Library and Information Centre organized a Debate Competition for students on the topic “Online or Offline? Making Smart Choices for Academic Success.” The event commenced at 12:00 PM in the Library and Information Centre.
The event was judged by Mr. Raju A.G., Lecturer in Electronics, Adichunchanagiri ITI College, Channarayapatna, who praised the participants for their clarity of thought, confidence, and depth of research.
The programme was presided over by Dr. M.K. Manjunath, Principal, and organised by Mrs. Kavitha J.N., Librarian. Dr. Nirupama M., Head of the Department of Zoology, delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for the event. The session was anchored by Mr. Bhaskara J., Physical Education Director. Faculty members were also present to encourage and motivate the participants.
The competition aimed to encourage students to critically analyze and present their perspectives on the role of online and offline sources in academic learning. A total of 21 students registered, and 19 students actively presented their debate—9 in favour of online sources and 11 supporting offline sources (printed material).

In addition, three participants received complementary awards to encourage them to participate in future competitions, recognising their enthusiasm and potential.
All prizes and certificates were presented on the spot by the Judge, Principal and the Librarian, adding to the excitement and recognition for the winners.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, appreciating the judge, dignitaries, faculty, participants,

Centre celebrated National Librarians Day on 12th August 2024 at 201 Lecture hall
at 11.30 AM. The students heard from Mrs. Kavitha J.N., Librarian about the
significance of Librarian's Day as well as about Dr. S.R. Ranganathan's
biography, contributions to Indian Library Science, and recognition as the
Father of Library Science in India. Every year, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan's birthday
is celebrated in India as National Librarians Day. A Special Lecture was
organized as part of Librarians’ Day. Ashok, I BA student, opened the programme
with the invocation of Raghavendra Song. After the formal welcome speech given
by Mrs. Kavitha J.N., Librarian and Convener of the Programme offered watered
the plants as the program's inaugural event by the Resource Person and the
Principle, as well as offered by the other faculty members. Floral
tributes were paid to the portraits of Dr. Sri Sri Sri Balagangadharnath
Swamiji and Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (Father of Indian Library).
Resource Person Mr. A.T.
Sanjay Kumar, Principal, Navodaya Junior College, C.R. Patna. He informed
the students about the importance of books and the relevance of reading in
life. He said that if students are converted to books and libraries, everything
will be good in the future; he said that knowledge becomes knowledge when books
are memorized. Present a few books to the pupils, explaining that the
information contained within is unique and that you should gather additional
books from around your house to create a library. It was brought to the
attention of the students that he has built a library of 15000 books in his
house, which is his personal library.
Lakshmi, first B.Com. was honoured
for securing 95% marks in PU board examination.
Mr. Narasimhamurthy P., the Assistant
Professor, Department of Commerce gave the official Vote of Thanks at the
conclusion of the event, and The program's host, Mr. Siddaraju, an assistant
professor in the department of political science, educated the students about
the significance of the day and resource person.
