Field Visit to APMC Market, Channarayapatna

The Department of Economics organized a Field Visit to APMC Market, Channarayapatna, on 14.03.2026 to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of agricultural markets and related facilities.

A total of 26 students participated in the visit. The visit was organised by Mr. Lokesh and Mr. Siddaraju, who took the students to the APMC market as part of the educational activity.

During the visit, the APMC Market Secretary, Mr. Somashekar, explained the functioning of the market yard, including the arrival of agricultural commodities, weighing, grading, and auction procedures. He also spoke about the role of traders, commission agents, and the importance of APMC markets in ensuring fair prices for farmers.

The students also visited Sri Lakshmi Ranganatha Cold Storage Limited, where they learned about the storage facilities for agricultural products and the importance of cold storage in preserving perishable commodities. The staff explained the storage process, temperature maintenance, and how such facilities help farmers and traders in maintaining the quality of their produce.

The visit provided students with practical knowledge about agricultural marketing and storage systems. It was highly informative and helped them understand real-life applications of the concepts studied in economics.
