International Day of Democracy – 2026

 The Department of Political Science of Sri Adichunchanagiri First Grade College organised a programme to commemorate the International Day of Democracy – 2026 on 15th September 2026 in collaboration with Karyanirata Patrakartara Sangha (R), Chananrayapatna under the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the college and the organisation.

Mr. Siddaraju, Journalist, Prajavani newspaper, was the Resource Person. In his address, he explained the meaning and significance of democracy, the importance of constitutional values, freedom of expression, equality, and fundamental rights and duties. He highlighted the vital role of young citizens in protecting democratic values and encouraged students to develop awareness of current affairs and participate responsibly in democratic processes. He also emphasised the role of journalism and a free and responsible media in strengthening democracy, creating public awareness, and providing citizens with reliable information. He urged students to critically evaluate information and develop responsible media literacy.

The programme was presided over by Dr. M. K. Manjunatha, Principal, who highlighted the importance of democratic values, constitutional responsibility, and active citizenship among students.

Dr. N. T. Nagaraja, Head of the Department of B.A. and Political Science, served as the Convenor of the programme. Faculty members and students actively participated in the programme. The programme served as a meaningful platform for students to understand the principles of democracy and their responsibilities as informed and responsible citizens.
